Even in Japan Xbox Is Selling Amazingly Well

The Xbox Japan Sales are truly impressive as it is rapidly expanding and becoming the fastest growing market in the world. Japan has historically been a difficult spot for Xbox Sales, but the Xbox Series S is especially popular for its compact and «cute» design.

I know we normally talk games here, but I wanted to try to do some good this month. So all June I’m raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. 1. still playstation has ghostwire tokyo and deadloop. probably sony will announce after e3 i dont know….psx? state of play that theyre talking about??

    2. Actually make sense japanese market is favourable to Xbox.
The Series S form factor suits Japanese preference, xcloud offer flexibility for gaming just like the Switch, and with dev mode they can play Sony and Nintendo games through emulators.

    3. but unfortunately Nintendo switch is the true dominant sales in japan than Playstation and Xbox. Cause they like to play on the go instead of xcloud gamepass

  1. I just wish they would make a better quality controller. And add their own version of a platinum trophy. That’s my only 2 nitpicks for xbox

  2. This is a little bit of wishful thinking and marketing speak on Microsoft’s behalf. Xbox might be selling better in Japan that last year but that doesnt mean its selling well because it’s not.

Xbox does not release sales number or estimates anymore and they probably never will again. All the guy from microsoft had to do was to say how many systems they have sold but he won’t.

But all current charting estimates… xbox is selling less than 1,000 units of series x and s combined in japan each week. Sony is currently selling about 20,000 units per week. They are both supply constrained so who knows what it will look like in the coming months. But the fact xbox is only releasing under 1,000 systems in Japan weekly while releasing 100,000 weekly in the states does not bode well for xbox selling well in japan.

  3. this is huge for Xbox. Other than the 360 they haven’t had a great foothold in Japan and even with the 360 it was peanuts compared to the PS3 and Nintendo..

  4. I Had to Give you a thumbs down Destin and the reason for it is how can you make a video like this . Makes no sense sorry . And i find it really hard to subscribe to you. You have no numbers no facts nothing . You dont know if each store gets 3 consoles or 12 and they never sold well at all over there so if they were selling 3 and now they sell 7 then yes that fits this post well . But without any data , no actual sales chart of anything this is ridiculous and ludicrous. Why are you trying to make it appear like it is selling amazing? According to who and based on what? The most depressing thing about this is there are 20 more yourubers just like you out there

  5. 600+ units is «crazy» good? «Lol here are last weeks numbers according to famitsu. Its NOT selling well AT ALL!

    Switch- 74,000
    Switch Lite- 23,000
    PS5- 16,000
    Ps4- 2700
    Ps5- Digital-2000
    Series X- 340
    2ds- 340
    Series S-280.

    1. That’s what desperation does. Technically they may be selling a little bit better than Xbox consoles have in the past, but that’s not saying much if those numbers were super abysmal in the first place. Now they are making it out to be like everybody in Japan is going to drop Sony and pick up an Xbox series X or s.

  6. Dame, it’s us, Chinese.
Many Chinese buy xbox from Japan. During the xbox one generation, 1/2 of Japanese xbox were bought by Chiness.
I recently bought my series x from Jp, since it’s actually no single one xsx in stock on Chinese online retailer.

  7. This is encouraging. From what Ive seen from japanese youtubers the major problems seems to be weak marketing and presence in retail stores. Eyuden chronicles and the entire yakuza franchise may entice japanese towards the xbox, plus the small form factor of the series S with it being a white cute appliance (japanese love these things) and the focus on fullhd, which works quite well for nintendo.

  8. I think Series S might be selling so well in Japan because it kind of looks like the Japanese Flag, especially if you paint the big round black spot red. (Note: Microsoft could get some of the top Japanese artists to custom paint a few Series S. Putting the Yin and Yang symbol over the big black spot might be a cool customization)

  9. Destin I love the change in lighting set up👍🏻
    Keep up the good work.

Years ago when I would see you on IGN I always in the back of my mind thought “Man I wish I could hear this guy talk about games more”.

You were definitely always my favorite person on IGN

Now you having your own channel is damn awesome.

  10. I live in India and I am paying 4.59 cents per month for gamepass for the initial 3 years.
That’s just crazy, you are literally paying just the price for the hardware . That’s it
Meanwhile a ps5 game cost about 70 dollars.
That’s a year of gamepass ultimate , I’m saving a ton of money that too during covid.
Love xbox , (Not a xbox or a ps fanboy )

  11. Without numbers it’s very hard to determine what «growth» really means in Japan. Don’t forget that Xbox console sales have been less than 100 units per week. It’s basically non-existent in Japan so literally a few more buyers can produce significant growth statistics.

  12. Until I see lots of JRPGs on Xbox I’m not convinced. I really want Xbox to take off in Japan as I’ve moved across and miss all the Japanese games I could get on PlayStation. Please Xbox buy some Japanese studios!!

  13. Hmmm…. Actually no.. not Japanese buy Xbox Series X .. almost All South East Asia Region got Xbox stock from Japan.. the neglected Region by Microsoft..

  14. I think we should take this news with a grain of salt. I am sure they are growing but they don’t have to do much to post big percentage growth numbers because their base is so small.

I am sure they are doing better but it is hard to see how they could do worse than they were doing. Nowhere to go but up as they say.

  15. Destin,I love your content and respect your work, but when did this channel become a 100% Xbox site? I miss some diversity, I get that you love Microsoft’s console and gamepass but man,to be honest this is a little too much , If I am not mistakem you have been covering exclisively Xbox releted stuff for more than a week…..

  16. There were xbox series s in my walmart. And up on some store sites. But i cant buy it with less than 500g hard drive and expansion is $200. so i might as well buy a super buff 1tb system over kinda strong 1.5 tb system for $500

    1. Sony cant hate anime when they got most of streaming services under sony umbrella. Crunchyroll (soon) funimation, and publisher aniplex, anisong artist under sony.

  17. At the end of day for us Xbox gamers this is a win win situation, more traction in Japan means more jrpgs and other Japanese games coming to xbox and game pass. I also believe that yakuza like a dragon on gamepass is a good sign for sega to port persona aswell.

  18. I can’t find any evidence of Xbox doing well in Japan. They might be doing better than previous years but that wouldn’t be hard .They are lightyears behind Nintendo and PlayStation in that region.

  19. A major retailer has a collaboration with Microsoft here in the UK to shift XSS consoles by trading a PS4, XBO or NSW and you pay nearly nothing. I got one.

Smart move by Microsoft but I think it reflects that they are struggling to shift these. I even seem 4 XSX consoles just sitting on the shelf waiting to be bought 🙃

  20. It is so awesome to see comments on this video from Japanese Xbox Series owners explaining why they made their purchase. Look, I’m not naive enough to believe that Microsoft is going to dominate Japan anytime soon. Playstation is still the best console for JRPGs. But, Xbox’s strides coupled with a massive chip shortage is definitely going to continue to eat into their market share. And I’m glad to see more Japanese players excited by Xbox. 👋 Konichiwa.

  21. Hey I’m all in on good news but what is this «amazing» they speak of? 1000 units a week? Might be better than the One but nowhere near the other consoles…

  22. Really dig your new space, Dustin! Very cool lighting. Plus I have to agree, I got the Series S on top of Series X partly because of how unbelievably cute the design is. FPS boost and Game Pass make the console very very compelling and I will definitely take it with me when travelling once some sort of normalcy resumes.

  23. A great selling strategy to have, currently, is to have the «worse» product. Image that people would rather buy a Series X or PS5, but the availability of the Series S alone, gives MS so much good press… also perfectly merging with the accessibility marketing they are pushing for.

  24. Honestly, without sales figures, this article means nothing.

if you sold 500 consoles a month, and now sell 1000 a month. That is a giant amount of growth, but in actual numbers it is still nothing.

  25. Most homes in Japan are small compared to America, so it makes sense that the smallest new console sales well here, I think the minimalistic design helps too. BTW, they’re also selling out those Series Xs, can’t find them!

  26. here in asia not the xbox console is selling well but game pass to be more precise. you can see xbox console here selling at srp but no one cares.
