After months of reports, Sony has finally announced an overhaul to its subscription service plans, with the rebranding of PlayStation Plus in June. While the name remains the same, the service has evolved with some new additions, such as limited-time game trials, and the shift of another PlayStation service under the PS Plus umbrella. All three services certainly share some commonalities, but there’s actually some quite different focuses when it comes to how enticing they are to would-be subscribers, so let’s cover the biggest changes and differences that we know of so far.

Imagine companies charging you for game trials… LLS
This is just lame.
jim ryan has been the worst thing to happen to sony
Would like to give PlayStation premium tier with retro PS1 and ps2 games a go for three months. then decide if stay long term.
No android cloud from PS PLUS
PlayStation > xbox
120€ a year for ps+ premium is a great deal for me, that’s just 1 visit less at McDonald’s a month and it’s free to me
Game pass is still the best service
I’m riding wit my green gang
What will happen to those who have one year subscription Are we to upgrade to the desired subscription?
I’m more confused after watching this video
Imagine having a paywall to enable access backward compatibility & cloud saves. Sounds consumer friendly right?
@Roque A. Deleon They didn’t remove it. It was never BC with PS3 in the first place.
PS4 games work for free.
@Pixel Jaunt VR He means ps3 was a full back compat console at launch then they removed the feature to save money.
You can thank Microsoft for introducing online payment for consoles ever since they announced the Xbox One.
@Knowledgeheuheu You don’t need a online sub to have cloud saves or play old games on an Xbox console.
keep in mind that: Microsoft market cap as of today is around $2 Trillion ($2000 Billion), Sony is at around $130 Billion, and Nintendo at $60 Billion.
Microsoft can afford themselves to lose some profit in exchange for gaining bigger player base. Where as Sony can barely match it, and Nintendo would probably lose a lot more in short term.
And a ton of the the money MS makes is through dodgy government contracts.
Yeah how’s that going for you ? 😂
You do realise that the Xbox division is only a very small part of the Microsoft whole and doesn’t necessarily have access to the «2 trillion dollar valuation» right?
Xbox has to justify its own existence and profitability within the overarching Microsoft whole and the totality of the Microsoft «bank» will never be made available to the Xbox division.
PC, ps5, and switch covers all your bases.
Would like to give PlayStation premium tier with retro PS1 and ps2 games a go for three months. then decide if stay long term.
Gamepass a better de but overrated to bad people don’t see it.
It doesn’t compare to game pass it’s like Nintendo switch online service full of old games you can say PlayStation gives more games then Nintendo online does cause Nintendo still hasn’t put out 400 games yet
Which TIER? Here in Brazil is just TEARS!
Playstation has been the more popular console choice vs Xbox…….. and they didn’t even have any «gamepass» element.
Now they’re making improvements in that sphere…. so even better. And offer better 1st party games too 💯
Keep telling yourself that.
@WaxDat8800 Sales figures say it all.
Without local ps3 games..thanks but no thanks.
This is more of a competition to the switch crap online extended (whatever the name is) Not a Gamepass competitor in the slightest
How it compares?… IT DOESN’T! end of video
Playstation acts like the old games are the highest tier like they price cars on gt7. They give it a fake value but in all reality that should be the lowest tier to stream old games that look bad already.. and now you gotta play them with latency and even worse fidelity.

is this coming to Australia??
Playstation gamepass depends completely what games are included to the service.
Nintendo is not even at same league, like Nintendo doesn´t have any modern games on their service at all.
Any comparison with Nintendo Switch online mentioned is an instant win, Nintendo has the worst online service hands down.
It is a table not a graph.
Imagine having a paywall to enable access backward compatibility & cloud saves. Sounds consumer friendly right?
So what’s going on with that Perfect Dark reboot
How it compares?
It doesn’t
Game pass is just better
Where Spoder-Mayne?
Nintendo and PlayStation:
Brothers in Arms in gatekeeping retro games.
Anyone know if the Spider-Man games will be the ps5 version or PS4 version on the ps5?
Shame we can’t download individual games without the expensive subscription. I’ll just stick to using my original systems my ps2 plays all of my ps1 games anyway.
Is new PlayStation Plus, PS Spartacus?
Nintendo and PlayStation:
Brothers in Arms in gatekeeping retro games.
Playstation 6 il buy that
horrible I’d say, No day 1 exclusives mean it’s bad
Any comparison with Nintendo Switch online mentioned is an instant win, Nintendo has the worst online service hands down.
So no pc? Thanks Sony
Game pass have so many great games. I’m in love. Halo, Gears, Forza, Psychonauts, Age of Empires, Crusader Kings 3, Doom, Fligt Sim, Dragon Age, Mass Effect Trilogy, Dragon Quest, Skyrim, Fable, Hellblade, It Takes Two, Guardians of the Galaxy, Hitman, MK11, Ori, The Nonary Games, A Plague Tale, RE7, Scarlet Nexus, State of Decay, Visage, Walking Dead, Yakuza, Undertale, Stardew and many many many many many more. It’s amazing! On Xbox and PC game pass.
All your crusader king 3 descendants are in love with you too
It doesn’t, you’re welcome for saving you time.

PlayStation seems to be essentially offering «backwards compatibility» at a monthly subscription fee which Xbox provides for free. Then they don’t seem confident enough to put their own first party games day and date, might make it difficult to convince 3rd parties to do then. Doesn’t even seem worth comparing to Xbox game pass at this moment.
they can’t afford to put their 1st party games on day 1
you are forrgeting that this is not about confidence it about money. microsoft is prepared to make a loss of first party games which they do. sony is not
Mr Ryan is not a gamer
Imagine having a paywall to enable access backward compatibility & cloud saves. Sounds consumer friendly right?
More than nintendo is doing. They were selling mario 64 games for 60 bucks on the switch.
cant really compare until see a gamelist
Game Pass is where it’s at
Why do people still buy PlayStation? Lmao own a pc or an Xbox
PS still the console king
Now I’m starting to realize why they say Playstation won’t last another decade
Ps ceo speaks like forza 5 is not quality game but deep inside he knows it’s the best car game till date and plays at night at home on his pc 😂🤣
Simply Microsoft has huge wallet so that they can give more now to capture audience even if it’s loss, but ps and Nintendo couldn’t take that risk 😂
Nintendo’s offer is better than PSnow
1) gamepass
2) Nintendo online
3) PSnow
this is the shallowest of comparison.
Sony isn’t offering as much as Xbox because they can’t. Microsoft is A LOT richer than Sony and Nintendo put together. Keep that in mind.
Lame pass has “day and date” for the handful of games it has exclusive a gen most being mediocre GAAS it also has MLB included on Lame pass every year if you prefer that to consistent AAA exclusive games and being able to actually use your console without internet then lame pass is the service for you now go ahead and enjoy your Battletoads and Snake remastered
Got a PS5 and PC but no Xbox wins with this hands down, PS plus needs first party title day one 💯👌
Half assed gamepass
Where my GTA 4 homies at ?
It’s PS Plus + PS Now + Many more classic games (PS1,2&3) and Full game trials.
PS Now also came before Game Pass and offered the exact same thing with the Netflix of gaming style so it’s always weird when big gaming journalists credit that to Xbox. Just because games pass gets marketed more and is more popular doesn’t mean it was their idea that came first.
