    1. Yeah man that game was EPIC back in the day. I had the SHAREWARE version and my next door neighbor and I played it so much, his mom’s boyfriend snapped it in hald. Brandon was like. «Yo that was Mark’s». Next day he bought me the full version of the game and apologized.

This game was a huge step up from DOOM, but it still feels like DOOM in a different universe.

I played it back then with keyboard only controls, because I was so used to DOOM. I didn’t start keyboard and mouse until Half Life on my Voodoo 3 lol.

Also, if you didn’t know, Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails did all the sound for the game, that’s why the Nailgun ammo boxes have the NIN logo on them. You are literally shooting Nine Inch Nails into your opponents lol.

I definitely do not miss the 56K dial up and connecting to servers from back then lol.

    2. DIMENSION OF THE PAST was actually released 5 YEARS AGO for Quake’s 20th Anniversary for free on PC only.

[EDIT] So according to Wikipedia there actually IS a new Quake Episode in this release called «Dimension of the MACHINE» (similar name). So that now makes 4 extra DLC Mission Packs in addition to the main campaign! So the included DLC is actually longer than the main campaign!

Now I have to buy it!

  1. With respect to this reviewer but i have to point out that you didn’t need a Pc to play Quake back in the day , as I bought it for the Sega Saturn & the N64…

As to why this reviewer is saying he couldn’t play it as he needed a Pc is puzzling , as I had no Pc but played many hour’s of Quake & Quake 2 on console’s…

I can even remember when eventually they released the first original » Doom » game on the Super Nintendo & though it wasn’t as graphically impressive as other ports it was still fun to play as even the Larger Console’s or Pc’s couldn’t get it to look much better because Doom was a casualty of its own limitations with regards to what was used back then to develop these types of FPS game’s…

Game’s developer’s were very happy that Castle Wolfenstein sold well & they did their best to bring more graphical improvements over Caste Wolfenstein & especially its successor » Doom » then after the latter came » Quake »

I remember the character’s & weapons having sharp straight lines as part of their graphical body parts or weapons but it wasn’t anything majorly off putting & my guess was the developer’s were trying a different look for Quake to see if it would be as successful as » Doom »

I personally really enjoyed playing Quake 1 & 2 but Doom was one of those game’s you couldn’t play enough off back all those decades ago…

I’ve always wanted an updated Quake game on last gen or on current gen consoles with Campaign & Multiplayer , along with other types of game styles…
As it is a game that in my opinion is well overdue for a full next gen remake & Quake deserves a whole new game…

I can’t understand why there hasn’t been any newer Quake game’s except for a » multiplayer only mode » game that was out on console years ago but I can’t remember which one it was released on & I can only assume that Quake didn’t sell as well as » Doom » so they decided to shelve it & concentrate on more Doom & Castle Wolfenstein game’s…
Which is a pity as I really enjoyed the Quake game’s…

They had great sound effect for each weapon that were definitely different from the Doom game’s & if memory serves me correctly there was a grenade style handheld weapon that when fired you heard the clanking of those ammo parts you shot hitting & bouncing off of & around walls to kill your opposition without turning a corner & walking into their line of fire…

In light of this still ongoing coronavirus stay safe and healthy wherever you are in this world…

    …..

  2. Also if you already own the game on steam it’s a free upgrade! Great video Max. Gameplay is king is right, level design is legendary and the audio is timeless.

  3. The best part is that you don’t even need to buy it if you already own it ,this is some good pro consumer move that Id software don’t get the appreciation for along side the free extra content they keep pushing for Doom eternal.

  4. My son asked me what Minecraft mod am I playing lol. I had to give him some education on what a good game is. He loves it now. He has been playing it all day.

  5. Wow! What a nice surprise! I played Quake Deathmatch on the PCs at university. I was too poor for a good PC of my own. Good times though! I will probably get this on Xbox and Switch

  6. I am sure someone has pointed this out in the comments but you need to blow up the zombies to kill them. Gib them with the rocket launcher or grenade launcher. That is why the game gives you the grenade launcher just before you first encounter them. The game teaches you likethat without a tutorial.

Enjoy it dude. Quake is one of the best games ever made in my opinion and this remaster makes me so SO happy

  7. How do you know it plays just as good now as it did then if you have never played it before. Second its a full on lie cause it plays better than it did in the 90’s cause of all the upgrades. Dreamcast lie

  8. I’m sorry, but what’s all the hype for? Doesn’t the game look quite awful? It’s not like they pulled a Demons’ Souls level of remake here, so I don’t see why is anybody getting excited over this.. I played Quake 64 and I don’t remember it being that much different than this, so what was the point in even making it in the first place? Bah..

  9. The pc version was a free upgrade.. I almost cried when I started playing it for the first time. They fixed EVERYTHING. FINALLY!

  10. I played this on Saturn and loved it, but could never beat it. I’ll have to check it out. I hope they do a remaster of Rise of the Triad — my favorite shooter from that era.

  11. I’m really diggin’ this «boomer shooter » renaissance, no muss ,no fuss straight to the point shooting games, not to mention all the new indie games that are on the way that expertly emulate these same gaming conventions of the past. 👍🏿👍🏿

  12. Small correction: Dimensions of the Past is not new, it came out in 2016 to celebrate the game’s 20th anniversary. Dimension of the Machine is the new one, made for this enhanced version and the game’s 25th anniversary.

Still though, great video. Quake is one of my favorite games of all time and I’m glad you had a blast with it.

  13. Try playing it on PC and even though PS/Xbox and Switch can have the Goodness the PC the one left out. It’s Late and I need to eat crow sorry my bad didn’t see the Rerelease folder and since Steam not loading this at all it sucked. I have no idea why they didn’t make it so it just load up instead nothing Loads and you have to go to the Folder to look for a Folder to play the Game.

  14. First quake is best quake imo! Next to «Blood» it’s my favorite game of all time. Though my introduction to the series was Quake 3.
Great review man! My own review of Quake 1 and its two original console ports should be up in the morning. 😛
Just barely got to mention this remaster but honestly pretty happy with it so far! My only gripe is the netcode being kinda glitchy on PC when playing online. Looks like it works awesome on the switch!

  15. Oh, my God. This used be my favorite shooting game when I was a literal child. I specifically told my mom to get me Quake when I first got my 64. I can’t wait to buy this.

  16. This is amazing but makes me sad that epic games totally forgot unreal torunament, it would ve awesome if they ported the games too. Great vid!

  17. Haha, you can’t imagine my reaction when I saw this in the morning. I used to be a kid back when the game launched. I used to visit my godfather only to run over at his PC and play Quake and Mortal Kombat. I would die so many times but still pressed on through the levels. It made me feel so heroic when I would finally win, haha. Here I am after so many years, seeing this release in such a masterful new coating. Makes me remember the carefree days of back then and how awesome gaming used to be. I would easily recommend this to all of you out there!

  18. I had quake on the Sega Saturn, it brought whole different level of depth of 3D, you could look on every axis compared to doom, where you could only move on 3 👌🏽
